Jack Anson

Where are you from?

Hi! My name is Jack. I’m from Syracuse NY.

Where do you/did you attend school? Share with us the city/town, what you
are majoring in, what your academic interests are?

I am currently an Undergraduate of Landscape Architecture here at SUNY ESF.

What are your career goals?

I hope someday to get my licensing in Landscape Architecture. While I currently work in historic preservation, I would love to find ways to create and reimagine spaces by reintegrating various cultural experiences and values for the next generation.

Outside of school and work what are your hobbies and/or interests?

Outside of work, you can find me poring through videos and books on the lives and religion of people throughout the world’s history. On weekends you’ll often find me playing Dungeons and Dragons with my friends.

What is your internship project focus? Explain what you will be doing, which
parks/partners will you be working with? Who is your mentor at the Olmsted Center
?

The focus of my internship this summer is to test and adjust various inventorying methods for the Erie Canal National Heritage Corridor under the guidance of John Auwaerter, a professor here at ESF.

Why did you choose to participate in a Designing the Parks Internship? How is your internship hosted?

I chose to apply for the internship because of my interest in history and culture, and since it’s hosted through SUNY ESF, it was right at home for me.

What are you looking forward to learning or exploring during your internship?

I can’t wait to do fieldwork alongside my colleagues this summer, and I look forward to an enriching experience.

What types of opportunities will Designing the Parks provide you with?

This program has provided the opportunity to take my first steps into work related to my degree program and is showing me new ways that I can apply myself.
